ALS Program

Our ALS (AMYOTROPHIC LATERAL SCLEROSIS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, program is designed to provide comfort care for patients with advanced ALS and other neuromuscular diseases.

ALS patients have complex and constantly changing medical needs and support needs. This disease often strikes in midlife, when an individual may have an active career, parenting responsibilities and family commitments. Benefits of the NorthCare Hospice ALS Program:

  • Skilled symptom management by specially trained staff so patients can remain as active as possible.
  • Interdisciplinary teamwork that helps patients maintain an optimal quality of life at home and increases the ability of the patient to cope with the illness.
  • ALS specific education and support for patients, family members and caregivers.

The challenges that come with ALS are unique. We are experienced in the complicated multi-system effects of the disease and collaborate with local associations to provide patients and families with the resources they need to meet their personal goals.
